Ingredients
- 1/2 cup black lentils
- 3 tbs red kidney beans/ Rajma
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- few fresh spices(cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise and bay leaves)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 garlic pods
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tbs butter
- salt, as needed
- 1 tbs dry fenugreek leaves/kasuri methi
- coriander leaves to garnish
- 3 tsp vegetable oil
Directions
Soak rajma and black lentils in water overnight or use canned beans. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. To this add cumin seeds, fresh spices and onions, saute till the color changes and aromatic oils are extracted. Once sauteed add ginger garlic paste, chilli powder, saute for few more seconds. To this add chopped tomatoes, cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Now add beans and black lentils and pressure cook with enough water for up to 3 whistles .Cook for few more minutes, if rajmas and lentils looks hard when pressed with a fork or finger, must be fork tender. Add milk and bring this to a boil. Adjust the salt and add add powdered fenugreek leaves. Simmer it for few more minutes till gravy becomes thick and creamy. Heat butter in a small pan and add garlic pods, pour over the gravy, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and small piece of butter.
