Greengram Plantain curry /Cherupayar Puzhukku

Green gram plantain curry/ cherupayar puzhukku
This is one of the healthiest curries prepared in Kerala homes. Commonly this puzhukku is served with Porridge as an energy booster. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup green gram
  • 1/2 cup raw plantains, chopped
  • 2 slit green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • To Grind
  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • To Garnish
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • curry leaves, few
  • 1 dry red chilli
  • 2 to 3 shallots chopped
Directions
Soak green gram in water for 2 hours. Pressure cook green gram and plantains in enough water adding turmeric powder and salt. To this add ground coconut paste. Cook for few more minutes(Do not add too much water, gravy should be thick) . Once cooked tamper with mustard seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and shallots. This go well with rice porridge, rice, chapathi and rice dosa.
