Malabar Fish Curry/Kannur Fish Curry / Pacha Manga Meen Curry

Ingredients
  • Fish(Sardine, mackerel or any white fish, cleaned)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tbs ginger, cut in small pieces
  • curry leaves, few
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 to 3 raw mangoes large pieces, chopped lengthwise(depends on the tanginess)
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1tsp coconut oil
To Grind
  • 3/4 cup coconut, grated
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds

 Directions
Coat the fish pieces with salt and keep aside. In a chatti (Claypot) cook tomatoes with water adding raw mangoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, ginger pieces, curry leaves and salt. Meanwhile grind the coconut with turmeric powder, cumin seeds and chilli powder .Add this grind paste to the gravy. Bring this gravy to a boil and then add fish pieces. Cook on low heat till the fish pieces are cooked well.(Do not overcook or stir the fish pieces). Pour 1 tsp coconut oil over the fish curry and garnish with curry leaves.

  9. my version is kurachu diff..njan ellam kudi onichanu vevikuka..meenum,thengayum etc etc...Engotu vanapol njan chattiyum eduthu...kannur karaku pothuve meen illathe chooru unnan padaalle.pakshe enthu cheyana eviduthe thenga vachu meen curry vachal nattile taste inte ezhu ayalathu ethulla.
