Spicy Tomato Rasam
Ingredients
- 1 big tomato,sliced
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt, as needed
- 2 small garlic pods
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 cup tamarind water ( 1 gooseberry size tamarind soaked in 1 cup water)
- 1/4 tsp hing powder
- few curry leaves
- coriander leaves, handful
- few mint leaves
To Crush
- 3 shallots
- 2 garlic pods
- ginger,a small piece
- 1 tsp whole coriander seeds
- 2 green chillies
- 1/4 tsp whole black peppercorns
Directions
Cook tomatoes with turmeric powder,garlics and salt. Meanwhile crush the ingredients listed under crush.
Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Add crushed mixture along with hing powder and curry leaves , saute for 2 minutes. Do not burn the ingredients. To this add cooked tomatoes along with water. Add tamarind water. Pour more water to get desired consistency and bring to boil.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and mint leaves. Serve hot with rice.
