Sour cream pound cake \ Thanksgiving Dessert
Delight your family and friends on this Thanksgiving with this Moist Sour cream pound cake. This recipe is adapted from the cook book " Joy of Cooking".
Ingredients
- 3 cups cake flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 6 large egg yolks
- 6 large egg whites
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.In another bowl combine sour cream and vanilla extract. In a large bowl beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks , one at a time.Add the flour mixture alternating with sour cream mixture. Using clean beaters , beat in a large bowl on medium speed egg whites adding cream of tartar. Gradually add sugar .beat until peaks are soft not dry.Using a rubber spatula fold in one-quarter of the egg whites into the sour cream mixture, then fold in the remaining whites.Bake in loaf pan or tube pan until a tooth pick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean, about 1 hour 10 minutes. Let cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes.
