Black bean Brownies \ Butter less Brownies


  • 3/4 cup  cooked black beans
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips, divided
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • icing sugar, for dusting

My son said these are the best Brownies he ever ate without knowing that they are made with cooked beans. When i told him about the secret ingredient, he replied it doesn't even taste like beans, well that's exactly we all felt. Million thanks to Melissa of Foodnetwork for this awesome recipe.


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk the flour , baking powder and salt in a bowl and set aside.Melt half of the chocolate chips, set aside. In a blender puree the beans with oil. Add eggs, cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract. Blend on medium high speed along with melted chocolate chips until smooth.  Add dry ingredients to the blender and pulse until just incorporated.  Stir in the remaining choco chips. Bake in a greased 9 by 9 inch square pan for about 20 minutes . Let it cool completely and dust with icing sugar.
