Puli Inji(Tamarind Ginger Curry) - Onam Special Curries









Puli Inji - Sadya special


Ingredients


  • 2 cups ginger ,chopped
  • 2 green chilles, chopped
  • 1 whole dry chilli
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoittada
  • curry leaves, few
  •  1/4 tsp fenugreek powder
  • jaggery grated, as needed
  • water as needed
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • tamarind, size of a lemon
  • coconut oil, to fry
Directions


    Heat coconut oil in a pan and deep fry chopped ginger till crisp. Drain on paper towel and pulse it in a food
processor or mixer.(just one spin should be enough). Heat 1 tbs coconut oil and splutter mustard seeds. Saute chopped red chillies and green chillies for a minute and keep aside. To  the same oil add tamarind water along with chilli powder, turmeric powder, hing powder, fenugreek powder, curry leaves and jaggery. Boil till the liquid becomes very thick, adjust salt. Now add fried ginger, green chillies and red chillies. Boil for few more minutes serve with rice.
Note : If it is too spicy adjust with jaggery or molasses

  8. never used ginger in this way. this looks divine. almost like pickle. now I will ask my Keralian friends to invite me on Sadya. that seems a definite 'to have' meal for me now.
