Basmati Rice With Potato And Sweet Peas


This is a simple and quick one pot meal with potatoes and sweet peas.Making any pilau or pulav is easy and prepared with less spices, mostly eaten with boondi raita.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil or ghee
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp black cumin seeds
  • 2 to 3 cardamom pods
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt, as needed
  •  1 large potato, diced
  • 2 cups water
  • few coriander leaves

Directions


Wash the basmati rice and soak in water for 30 minutes. Heat oil in a sauce pan and add cinnamon stick,black
cumin, bay leaf, cardamom and onion, cook for about 3 minutes. To this add ginger garlic paste, turmeric, salt , sweet peas and potato, saute for 2 more minutes. (You can add the sweet peas later also after rice is cooked) Drain the rice and add to the pan. Stir well and pour the water. Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and fluff the rice with a fork.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve with raita.
