Muthirikothu / Moong Dal Balls
Munthirikothu is a quick Tea time snack from Kerala. The recipe and ingredients are almost similar to
Sukhiyan. The main difference is in Munthirikothu we use roasted green gram powder instead of cooked green gram. It has long shelf life, can last for up to a month.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cherupayar / green gram
- 1/2 cup thick jaggery syrup
- 1/2 to 3/4 cups grated coconut
- 1/8 tsp cardamom powder
- 1cup rice flour
- water, as needed
- oil , to deep fry
Directions
Dry roast the green moong dal till nice aroma develops, cool it and grind to a course powder. make a thick
jaggery syrup by melting jaggery in little bit of water and add cardamom powder and coconuts in it. Mix well and add powdered green gram ,combine well and make small balls out of it. Make a thick paste with rice flour adding water and little bit salt, dip each moong dal balls into this batter and deep fry till golden brown. Serve with tea or store it in an air tight containers.
